Our Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York (JBBBS) initiative is more than a
mentoring program — it’s a long-term investment in the emotional wellness, identity, and
futures of Jewish youth from vulnerable families. Many of our Littles come from single-parent
households, have faced trauma or loss, or are navigating the complexities of adolescence
without the steady presence of a caring adult. Through JBBBS, they are matched with
Jewish mentors — Bigs who share their Jewish cultural background and values, and who
can offer support, encouragement, and a healthy dose of fun!

Bigs are carefully selected adult volunteers from the New York Jewish community, including
alumni of Marks JCH youth programs — college students and young professionals who
grew up with the JCH as a second home. All Bigs are trained in trauma-informed care and
relationship-building strategies and will participate in ongoing training and support
throughout the year. Each Big/Little pair will meet at least twice a month and gather with
other JBBBS pairs at quarterly community-wide events.

Activities will vary from pair to pair, but they all will prioritize connection. Bigs and Littles
might explore the Brooklyn Museum, tackle a school project together, go ice skating, learn
how to make latkes, or just talk about life over a slice of pizza. These relationships will help
to combat the effects of screen-time isolation, rising antisemitism, financial stressors in
lower-income families, and more, while creating lasting Jewish memories.

Our deepest appreciation to the Honorable David F. Everett and the Dovere Family
Charitable Fund for their support in funding for this critical community initiative
