ExpansionDAY

For almost 90 years, the Marks JCH has served as a pillar of our community, connecting people and empowering them at every stage of life through vital social services and programs that educate and inspire. We look forward to many, many more decades of continuing to do so.

With this goal in mind – and our desire to serve even more people – we are delighted to announce a construction project that will begin later this year. Just in time for its 90th birthday, the Marks JCH is building up, expanding our facility by adding program space onto our roof.

Construction will begin in late fall of 2016 and is expected to conclude in spring/summer 2017.  When finished, a wonderful new space with a beautiful glass façade will sit atop our current building, literally and spiritually bringing new light to the community.

The expansion will create five new classrooms and office space, as well as a renovated outdoor intergenerational recreation area. The additional space will enable the JCH to serve more than 300 new clients per day and significantly expand our youth, workforce-development and self-sufficiency programs. When finished, a wonderful new space with a beautiful glass façade will sit atop our current building, literally and spiritually bringing new light to the community.

In addition to building new space for indoor learning, we are excited to renovate and improve the current rooftop play area, which will prove stimulating for people of all ages. The current playground structure, damaged by Hurricane Sandy, will be replaced with an Imagination Playground system with its signature large blue blocks that transform minds, bodies and spirits through imaginative play. Its portability will enable us to also install bleachers, allowing the entire JCH community to use the area for outdoor movie nights and other cultural events.

While daily routines at the JCH may be affected during the construction period, we expect all current services to continue and that visitors will be able to safely use the facility. All questions are welcomed at [email protected]

Again, thank you to everyone who has supported this extremely important initiative. We appreciate your patience in the months ahead. We are confident it will prove beneficial to each and every member of the JCH family, while allowing for our continued growth.
