For working parents, the hours between school dismissal and the end of the workday can be filled with anxiety. Who’s watching the kids? Are they safe? Are they learning? The Marks JCH’s afterschool programs ease that burden. This fall, we’re expanding to meet growing need by launching a second COMPASS NYC program site at PS 128.

The Marks JCH’s program will offer free, high-quality afterschool programming in academic enrichment, STEM, arts, sports, and civic engagement. These programs are about much more than childcare — they are carefully designed to promote leadership, social-emotional development, and academic success.

New York City families face one of the highest childcare cost burdens in the nation. Averaging of over $21,000 per year for infant care — more than double the national average — and even afterschool care for older children is increasingly unaffordable. By meeting our families where they are and launching this program in PS 128, the J is making sure that income is never a barrier to opportunity. Parents can work, retrain, and pursue their goals, while their children receive the enrichment and support they deserve.
