Our comprehensive approach starts young: Sunday Funday for Youth with Disabilities has built a consistent, supportive weekend environment for children with autism. One young boy who struggled with sensory overload and aggression is now thriving — offering hugs, following instructions, and fully participating. Youth M’Power bridges the post-high school gap, empowering teens to find direction and joy. One 18-year-old in the program, once struggling with depression, found new joy through culinary classes and is now pursuing a career in food service. Another young woman moved from camper to camp staff, an empowering full-circle moment.

Our Developmental Swim program has made a powerful impact by creating a safe, structured, supportive environment where children with disabilities can access the pool, many for the very first time. Unlike typical swim instruction, our Developmental Swim program provides one-on-one support from trained staff, with each child receiving individualized instruction tailored to their abilities. The benefits go far beyond learning how to swim; children and teens with disabilities gain body awareness and a sense of accomplishment that builds confidence in and out of the water.

For families our inclusion programs offer hope, connection, and real pathways to resources. For example, we helped a mother of two children with autism (both enrolled in M’Power and Sunday Funday) access New York State services for people with disabilities. With our guidance, she was able to receive financial relief and connect to long-term developmental services that have changed the trajectory of care for her family.

Inclusion at the Marks JCH means building a world where every child can succeed, and those who are parenting children and teens with disabilities can access resources, enriching activities, and a supportive community.

With gratitude to the J.E. & Z.B. Butler Foundation for their ongoing generosity and support.
