Afterschool Center Enrichment Academy Fall 2026

Basketball

Students will build their basketball skills, confidence, and love of the game in a fun and supportive environment. Classes will focus on dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, coordination, and game strategy through skill-building drills and team play. Along the way, students will strengthen sportsmanship, communication, discipline, and teamwork – both on and off the court.

Led by Randolph Cardenas, a High School Coach and experienced Marks JCH Basketball Coach who recently led the JCH basketball team at the JCC Maccabi Games in Toronto.

Chess

Whether learning the game for the first time or preparing to take their skills to the next level, students will develop a strong foundation in chess strategy and play. Through guided instruction, puzzles, practice games, and friendly competition, students will learn openings, tactics, checkmating patterns, and thoughtful decision-making. Chess also helps strengthen concentration, patience, problem-solving, and confidence.

Led by Eric Fleishman, a chess instructor with nearly 40 years of teaching experience and an accomplished competitive player with a USCF regular rating of 2200, a peak rating of 2270, and a FIDE standard rating of 2020.

Introduction to Ballroom Dance

Step onto the dance floor and discover the energy, elegance, and fun of ballroom dance! Students will learn the fundamentals of popular ballroom styles while developing rhythm, coordination, balance, musicality, and confidence. Through partner and group activities, dancers will also practice communication, cooperation, and respectful social interaction. No previous dance experience is required – just comfortable shoes and a willingness to move!

Offered in partnership with Brooklyn’s Best Dance Studio and led by co-owner and instructor Eugene Lerner. A successful junior competitor and finalist in numerous national competitions, Eugene now uses his passion and experience to train the next generation of dancers.

Jewish Explorers

  • Stories & Holidays
Discover the treasures of Judaism through stories, holidays, traditions, history, foundational texts, and wisdom! Through lively discussions and hands-on activities from cooking to creative projects students will explore Jewish celebrations and values, learn useful Hebrew words and phrases, and discover how Jewish wisdom can help us build self-worth, care for others, make thoughtful choices, and strengthen our communities. Students will connect with generations past while adding their own voices to the Jewish story.
  • Shabbat Studio
Shabbat is the heart of Jewish life – a chance to slow down, connect with family and friends, enjoy good food, and celebrate the beauty of creation and the gift of freedom. In Shabbat Studio, students will prepare for Shabbat in creative and meaningful ways – from baking challah and creating beautiful ritual objects to learning blessings, sharing stories, singing, and exploring Shabbat traditions. Together, we’ll discover how each of us can help make Shabbat meaningful and special.

Both will be led by Nike Silberstein, Marks JCH Director of Jewish Life and Learning, an American-Israeli educator with more than 20 years of experience in curriculum development, educator training, experiential Jewish education, and community building across Israel and the United States; with guest facilitators in the Jewish communal field.

Robotics:

  • RoboWOW Junior Robotics
Designed especially for young learners, RoboWOW Junior offers an exciting, hands-on introduction to robotics, engineering, and block-based programming. In each class, students will build a new robot, explore basic mechanical principles, and discover how simple mechanisms work. After building, they’ll program and test their robots, observe the results, make adjustments, and try again. Rather than simply following instructions, students will learn how and why their creations work while developing logical thinking, creativity, fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence with technology.
  • RoboWOW VEX GO Robotics
RoboWOW VEX GO combines engineering, mechanics, programming, and hands-on experimentation in a comprehensive, engaging robotics course. In each class, students will build an original robot and explore concepts such as gears, transmissions, movement, motors, sensors, and mechanical systems. Through block-based coding, they’ll work with sequences, loops, conditions, sensor data, and motor controls. Students will then test their robots, analyze the results, troubleshoot challenges, and improve their designs. The course goes beyond building robots to help students understand the engineering principles behind each model and develop systematic problem-solving skills.

Both courses are led by Anatolii Vasyliuk, a robotics specialist and children’s instructor with more than 20 years of experience in educational robotics. Anatolii develops courses in robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence and prepares students for robotics competitions and Olympiads.
