Dear Families,

We hope you and your families are safe and healthy. We miss your voices and smiles in JCH.

Thank you so much to our community of parents, children and staff for the numerous messages of support over the last several weeks; a special thanks to those who joined a Parent Committee Planning call two weeks ago – it was instrumental in understanding your questions and concerns. We will continue to work together with this group; if you are interested to join the Parent Camp Committee – please email us at [email protected]

As you might know, the Governor of NYS has released a statement allowing day camps to open and NYS guidelines for reopening camps have been released. However, the New York City, and DOHMH have not yet issued their guidance and protocols. Our camp team has been on daily planning calls and trainings with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the American Camp Association, and JCC Association. Though it is clear to us that we will not be able to run our traditional summer camp program, we are excited to share with you that we ARE COMMITTED and PREPARING for a JCH Summer Experience to begin on July 6th, 2020. In addition, we are currently working with DOE to solidify plans and continue providing Emergency Child Care at JCH for essential workers.

As your children’s safety is our top priority, operations and programming are being designed to best ensure we operate as safely and responsibly as possible. The DOHMH guidance is critical in determining the details of that, and we will need your full support and cooperation as we do our utmost to provide the best for your children under unpredictable circumstances.

We understand that there is critical information you need in order to make your plans; however till the DOHMH guidance is out, we cannot confirm summer programming details. If you’d like to know more about specific scenarios we have in place – please call or email us, and we will go through them with you in detail.

At this time, we are ready to operate summer programming at two sites – Marks JCH location in Brooklyn; and Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Staten Island. Each family can choose a site to join; transportation to and from the sites will NOT be provided (parents will need to drop off and pick up). Please note that space is very limited in both locations due to social distancing regulations. *the above is contingent upon exact DOHMH regulations; both sites are confirmed for operations on our end.

While we look forward to having you at the J this summer, we will continue to provide our families with the following financial options should you choose not to attend any JCH program this summer.

1. Credit for 2021. We can apply any or all of your 2020 payments as a credit toward your 2021 camp fees. If you used CampMinder to register, your credit will be noted in there; if you registered at our offices – we ask for your patience in receiving a credit letter until after our offices have fully reopened.

2. Donation to the JCH. All program fees and membership dues to the JCH are suspended while the agency is temporarily closed. During this time, the JCH has continued to incur significant personnel and facility expenses, as well as continue to provide critical virtual services to our community. You can go to https://www.jchb.org/donate/ to learn more about the work we are doing. We are offering this opportunity for our families to designate a portion or all of their camp fees as a charitable, tax-deductible donation to the JCC. Please contact me for more details on how to donate.

3. Refund Payments. We are able to refund your payment(s) made towards camp if you cancel your registration. We ask for your patience as refunds may not appear on your account until after our offices have fully reopened.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have. We appreciate your continued patience, partnership and support as we do our utmost to serve you and your families at this time.

Stay well and all the best,
