The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. Members receive 3 aerobic classes a week and access to our state-of-the art fitness center and pool. This program is offered to Medicare-eligible members who are age 65 or older and belong to a sponsoring health plan such as Oxford Secure Horizons or Empire BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD. The Bensonhurst Senior Center provides a daily Kosher hot lunch and social activities for persons aged 60 and over. A donation of $1.00 is requested for lunch and/or activities. Professional entertainment, dancing, dance instruction, tai chi, computer classes, exercise, lectures, discussion, art, mah jong, English Conversation classes, parties and trips are offered. The senior center in funded by the New York City Department for the Aging. |

Seniors comprise a large percentage of the rich quilt we call Bensonhurst. The population study estimates that over 20% of all households have an aging adults. This program was especially designed for the interests of the Russian-speaking aging community. “Golden Age” offers over twenty clubs that any of its members (60 yrs and up) can partake in:

This Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC) program serves everyone 60+, living between 77th and 86th Street and 21st and 23rd Avenues. The program offers services at clients’ homes and at the Marks JCH: SOCIAL SERVICES: case management, help with benefits, advocacy, referrals; REGISTERED NURSE: free visits and consultations, blood pressure checks, health education workshops; MINOR HOME REPAIRS; SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: multi-ethnic community chorus, trips, friendly phone calls, volunteer opportunities, Advisory Committee. The program offers in-home services to Russian-speaking older adults who seek more help with their daily needs, and who want more personal security. Services include: case management, minor home repairs, personal emergency response systems (emergency call buttons), volunteer translator/escorts for important appointments, social activities and special events. For a small monthly fee, members will become part of the network of Marks JCH staff and volunteers who will attend to members’ needs to create a caring community. |
